‘An evening you will not forget with all the stupidity and hilarity of the original series crammed into a three course meal culminating into a great night out.’
The Scots Reviewer, Edinburgh Fringe 2016

Treat yourself to more fine dining courtesy of the world’s most infamous hoteliers… With the return of Basil and Sybil Faulty and the hapless Manuel, the fun starts as you wait to be seated and served a 3-course meal. It then hurtles along for two hours that ‘will feed your need for world-class comedy, nourish your soul with howling laughter and have you begging the hotel staff to extend your stay.’ (Perth Now, Fringe World Perth 2016).

And because it’s highly improvised, no two shows are ever the same… so expect the unexpected! ‘Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is a real lark of a night: entertainment with a great meal to boot,’ (Limelight Magazine, Sydney Opera House 2016). ‘Superb.’faulty towers4

Uniquely acclaimed around the world, this is high-end immersive comedy theatre: ‘The actors themselves are stellar. They know their characters inside out and freely ad lib for most of the show. You’d almost believe they’re the real deal. Add to that the satisfying food and there’s nothing to dislike about this 2-hour dinner from Hell.’ (Glam Adelaide, Adelaide Fringe 2016)

Born in Brisbane in 1997, the show’s flawless reputation now takes it to 20 countries a year; it also has a long-running residency in London’s West End, where it holds TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. It has been selling out performances at Fringe World Perth since the festival’s start, winning 5* reviews all the way.

Review

Oh!! What an afternoon (or night) if that is your thing. An unforgettable experience, not to be missed.

Faulty Towers that famous comedy series has come to Perth for the Fringe Festival. This highly acclaimed show allows us the audience to experience two hours of side splitting entertainment and fine dining at the same time. The wonderful show takes place in the very intimate atmosphere of the famous Rigby Bar & Restaurant. We, the audience are transported back to the 1970’s and meet Basil, Sybil and of course the supposedly daft  but  adorable Manuel – who was the star of the show. In fact this Manuel could easily have been the identical twin of the original Manuel. The team were superbly cast with each of the characters even physically resembling the original cast.

The show is filled to the brim with madness, mayhem and mischief. We were on a table of six and we all got on very well. We did have one highly extroverted man on our table who enjoyed a lot of banter with Basil providing a lot of spontaneous unscripted humour.

All the actors brought to life the typical disastrous dining experiences that are in the original Faulty Towers. Bread rolls were thrown around, we were introduced to Manuel’s friendly but unwanted hamster to name just a few.

I can only end by saying I really know I have had a superb night out when my face and chest hurt from too much laughing. This is what I experienced during that enjoyable evening. A small price to pay for a fantastic afternoon out. Malti Elliott

guess-whos-coming-to-dinner1Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner is a new Australian one-act musical comedy with music by Benjamin Almon Colley and book and lyrics by Lucy Ross.

It’s a story about a guy called Mark, a gay, white, twenty-something-year-old, from the western suburbs, who brings home an atheist boyfriend from an Islamic family to meet his ultra-conservative Catholic mother.
What could possibly go wrong? All efforts to remain polite and courteous are strained as core beliefs are battled out in song over the dinner table, in a hilariously uncomfortable comedy of manners.
An homage to the Sidney Poitier film, the show re-imagines the conflict by tackling current issues such as refugee immigration, marriage equality and Islamophobia. It is particularly relevant in our increasingly unstable global political climate, advocating neither a religious nor atheistic outlook to life, but rather a loving, accepting, tolerantone.

The core of the story is love. When faced with losing people they love due guess-whos-coming-to-dinner2to unyielding differences of opinions and creeds, the characters mutually (albeit silently) agree to put aside their beliefs in order to coexist and have a functional relationship. In the same way, we as a society, need to learn to accept lifestyles, which are different to our own, otherwise the only road is alienation, separation, pain and suffering.

2 SHOWS ONLY

absolutelyA true giant-hearted story from giant-sized storyteller Allan Girod, Absolutely masterfully recalls his journey from extreme introvert to performing in Cirque du Soleil.

“Being a personal story I get a lot of joy sharing it” says Allan, “And audience come up afterwards with such diverse reactions. From saying they feel inspired to tackle a challenge, the unexpected similarities in my story to their story, or simply sharing the emotion they experienced.”

Allan explains how these post-show interactions in Perth, Edinburgh Festival and during a Regional WA tour have encouraged him to reflect on Absolutely and revise the story. “It feels like the right time to look back over the story, question what I was trying to say and which moments in my life I’ve used to say it”.

He recently took some time out, trialled new material and decided to give what was becoming a familiar story a shot in the arm. “I’m excited to be telling this alternate version. There’s several smaller stories that make the larger story. I’ve had fun refining these, mixing up the order and finding new moments that make it even more compelling.”

Trained by highly acclaimed ‘The Moth’ storyteller Brian Finkelstein (LA) Allan Girod weaves a mesmerising collection of embarrassing personal foibles, inspirational encounters and universal truths that resonate long after his final breath. Absolutely transports audience from Western Australia’s darkest suburbia to iconic outback isolation to the grand finale on an international big top stage.

More than anything it shows that sometimes the best place to belong is where the unexpected takes you. To get there, you just have to follow a dream, no matter how many times you tell yourself not to. It’s touching, laugh out loud and true.

AKMAL: TRIAL & ERROR AT FRINGEWORLD
ff9Come and see Akmal as he tries out new material for his upcoming new show this Fringeworld at Rosie O’Grady’s.
Experience the workings of one of Australia’s best comedy minds in a one-off and highly unique night out. Will any of it make it into his new show? We don’t know, but what we do know is that either way it will be entertaining…
Known for his incredible ability to deal with hot topics in a hilarious and slightly offensive way, Akmal promises this year to deliver a show that is punctual and jam-packed with words…some of which he will be using for the first time.
One of Australia’s most respected and accomplished comics, Akmal draws on his Arabic heritage, his experiences immigrating to Australia at the age of 11, and his disillusionment with religion and the modern world to deliver a stand-up show that is fresh, honest and ridiculously funny.
Saleh entered the world of comedy in 1990 under the alias Peter Saleh (“so people would think I was white”, he says).
Since then he’s performed in movies, on TV and as a regular radio and talk show host, and has written a book
about his journey from Egypt and his life as an Arab on the Australian comedy circuit.
As a stand-up he’s performed at Festivals all around the world including Edinburgh, and has won
numerous awards, including an ARIA for his DVD Live and Uncensored.

COMEDIANS AGAINST HUMANITY RETURNS TO PERTH!
“Mad, offensive, and utterly hilarious” 􀀁􀀁􀀁􀀁 TV Bomb (UK)ff01
“It’s wrong, it’s awkward, it’s whatever the total opposite of PC is,
but goddamnit, it’s outrageously funny” So Perth
After a sell out seasons in Perth Fringe World, Sydney Comedy Festival,
Edinburgh Fringe and encore shows in Melbourne and Sydney in 2016,
Comedians Against Humanity is back and better than ever!
Comedians Against Humanity is an exciting concept in interactive,
improvised, satirical stand up, created and hosted by Fringe Worldnominated
comedian, Yianni Agisilaou (pron. AJ-ISS-IL-OH). Taking
inspiration from the popular card game Cards Against Humanity, this is a
show loved by performers and audiences alike.ff01-1
How does it work? Yianni introduces each of his three guests as giving a press conference (an author
launching their new book, a government minister or a principal of a fancy private school with
announcements to make) and asks audience members for suggestions from their cards for the title of the book, or the nature of the announcements.
Suggestions are chosen (e.g. NOT GIVING A SHIT ABOUT THE THIRD WORLD, LEAVING AN AWKWARD VOICEMAIL) and each of the three guest comedians improvise their given press conferences whilst the audience act as an engaged and probing press asking
questions at will.
Across a riotous hour, watch three different world class comedians expertly directed and assisted by host Yianni improvise press conferences, church sermons, product pitches and more, using the fun, topical and often inappropriate suggestions an audience equipped with Cards Against Humanity cards can provide.

THE UN-PINCHABLE PINK PEN – Be tickled pink (in a totally manly way)
ff1Originally from Melbourne, London-based Yianni Agisilaou (pron. AJ-ISS-AH-LOW) is a
regular headliner around the world. He’s recently headlined the opening Gala for
Luxemburg Comedy Festival, been a guest contributor to news.com.au and was
featured on Nova Radio and Radio National’s Life Matters with his sell out, 4-star show
The Simpsons Taught Me Everything I Know.
Now Yianni brings to the stage his show The Un-Pinchable Pink Pen. Staggered after a
friend told him she purposely buys pink pens as it stops men in her office stealing them,
Yianni explores the preposterous rules, double-standards and expectations society
lumps on us depending on which bits we’re born with.
We’ve come a long way. We don’t bat an eyelid at short haired women or male nurses. Shipwrecks have progressed from Stone-Age ‘women and children first’ affairs to egalitarian ‘push anyone down’ pandemonia. And AFL clubs clamour over each other for women’s team licences. But Yianni still stifled his own tears in a darkened cinema during Les Mis, so there’s a long way to go.
Have you ever wondered about the possibility (and desirability) of a world where men share D&Ms over a tub of Ben & Jerry’s, you can take the piss out of a bride during a wedding speech and the word ‘vagina’ openly appears on chemist’s shelves rather than being alluded to in euphemistic tones? Did you know that pink was originally a boy’s colour whist blue was for girls? Have you lever looked at a peacock and thought in nature it’s often males who doll themselves up? Yianni has, and strips away the concealer giving modern society an hour long #NoMakeupSelfie.
His previous shows have examined topics as varied as quantum physics, how and when jokes become offensive; his experience being diagnosed as mildly autistic at the age of 33.3 (recurring), and booking the largest venue in Edinburgh for his show about ambition. This year Yianni sets out to show that when it comes to stopping people stealing your stuff, the (pink) pen is mightier than the sword.
Deep and thoughtful as well as charming and intelligent. This is everything that a good show

STAND UP COMEDY @ PERTH FRINGEWORLD
CAMERON JAMES: ‘88
ff7Stand-up comedian and podcast weirdo, Cameron James is doing his debut comedy hour at Perth Fringeworld this February.
As host of the relatively new but instant cult hit, Mike Check, CamJam (as his twitter followers call him) has subjected himself to watching every Mike Myers film on repeat until a fourth Austin Powers comes out. Each week he and his co-host Alexei, review a Myers film, attempt to investigate who Mike Myers is (What makes him tick? Is he happy? Is he horny, baby? Etc) and come up with pitches for their much desired Austin 4. The show is funny as it is stupid, and is already attracting high profile praise with recent guests including Wil Anderson and Adam Richard, as well as radio royalty Hamish & Andy giving it a big plug on air.
Onstage CamJam is widely regarded as one of the countries brightest and most hilarious up-andcoming stand-ups. Since placing second in Triple J’s RAW Comedy National Final, he has toured national as a support for Ari Shaffir (USA), Tony Hinchcliffe (USA), Tom Green (CAN) and opened for Australian comedy legends Akmal and Dave Hughes plus was hand-picked to perform at Splendour in the Grass.
Cameron James’ 5-star debut comedy hour, ’88, is funny, clever, packed full of punchlines, and delivered with relaxed confidence. If you’re a fan of funny, well told stories (or even Austin Powers), you’d do no better than this show!

JARED JEKYLL: YOUNG, DUMB & FULL OF PUN
ff8In this new show, Sydney favourite Jared Jekyll has concocted a
comedy brew like no other! With a healthy dose of stand-up mixed
with rap, beatboxing and absurdity – Jared Jekyll is just what the
clown doctor ordered!
Young, Dumb and Full of Pun! Combines Jared’s love of hip hop
music, punk rock energy and good old fashioned stand-up with a
few classic Dad jokes thrown in. Jared approaches live performance
with reckless abandon, throwing caution (and his filter) to the wind.
On stage his skill set seems limitless, blending music, beatboxing,
rapping, magic tricks and most importantly a steady stream of witty
jokes delivering a frenetic live comedy performance that is not for
the faint hearted!
Jared’s comedy prowess has cemented him as a familiar face on the Australian comedy circuit
and a sought after support act having recently opened for Tom Green (CAN) and Ari Shaffir
(USA). In addition to supporting international comedians, Jared has opened for US hip hop
superstar DMX, rapped up a storm on Triple J Breakfast with Matt and Alex, featured on the
comedy channel and most recently has been the face for ANZ apple pay and AMF bowling.
Jared is currently working on a weekly internet series called “Dad, Dadder, Daddest” which
can be seen on his official Facebook Page.
Don’t miss Jared Jekyll when he brings his original, inhibition-free comedy show to a
stage near you!
“One of the most promising (and certainly the most energetic) comedians to come out of Sydney.”
Theatre Press Melbourne
“Jekyll fits into no stereotypical labels; his reverberating intensity is both terrifying and mesmerizing to watch. He holds it together like Tarzan Grip while in character.” – YAWP Comedy Magazine
