Recently I watched a film from the Perth International Art festival entitled “Leviathan”. Interesting plot but in my estimation – a bit too long. It was two and a half hours – 40 minutes of the film could have been easily slashed off without anyone noticing and people still understanding the story behind the film. The acting was good and the scenery was spectacular. I have been told that the film was banned in Russia because it talks about the corruption that is rampant in Russia. The situation of course could have happened in any country. An interesting film but I think one would need a lot of wine to digest the heaviness of the story – fortunately one is allowed drinks in the Sommerville open air theatre.
